Why Friends Unite?
Those two words embody what I believe is important in life.
I consider myself a very fortunate person. I have a wonderful family who sacrificed a great deal to provide a good life for my sister and me. They taught by example and instilled in us strong, enduring values. I remember my father telling me that we should always be kind to people and strive to help others. The overwhelming message was that we should never let a few unpleasant people or experiences taint the goodness inherent in most of us.
I am also fortunate to have great friends, many of whom I consider family. When I reflect on our relationships, I realize that I value them more than any material item. It’s my friends and family who inspired me to form Friends Unite. There have been countless times when we’ve put our minds together to solve problems. So much of what we achieve in life is accomplished through teamwork, whether we realize it or not.
Our daily lives are just one small part of a very large world, in which many face seemingly insurmountable challenges. In our rapidly advancing society, we have access to the technology and resources needed to help people and communities tackle such issues as poverty, inadequate education and inaccessible healthcare. We can help people help themselves, by simply giving them a chance.
As a child, I watched It’s a Wonderful Life more than a dozen times. One line in that movie really resonated with me – “Remember, no man is a failure who has friends.” I decided to form a non-profit two years ago based on a firm belief that the power of friendships can make a difference in people’s lives. Through strong relationships and the sharing of ideas and resources, we can help people and communities gain access to basic necessities such as food, water, healthcare and education.
I truly enjoy working with the people of Friends Unite as we join together to achieve our mission. We look forward to forming long-lasting relationships with our supporters and the people and communities that we serve. As you get involved with us, I hope you enjoy being a part of Friends Unite as much as we do. Together we can make a real difference in the lives of people around the world.
